Snowdon Fundraising Walk November 2011
On Sunday 10th July 2011, 6 groups of willing volunteers participated in the Charity Snowdon Walk to raise money for a new 17seat Mini Bus need by 4th Frodsham Scout Group.
Snowdon is in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, an area steeped in history and benefits from some of the most beautiful views in all of Britain. Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales at 1085 metres or 3560 ft and is also known as by its local name Yr Wyddfa (the Tomb). Each year hundreds of thousands of visitors visit the mountain to enjoy its presence and share the exhilaration of scaling its slopes by one of the Snowdon paths. The mountain is not only tall but it has its own unique bio-diversity of plants and animals and much effort is made to maintain the fragile mountain ecology and therefore makes for a challenging but enjoyable walk.
The Route
The teams walked approximately 1Km along a lane which leaves the A4086 opposite the Royal Victoria Hotel at the South end of Llanberis to the start of the path. The path followed a track, steeply at first with a railway on our right hand, after 2Kms the path passed beneath the Snowdon Light Railway. On reaching the Halfway Station, some groups took a short break before heading on. After about 1 km the path headed left and the gradient got steeper, but they kept going and passed under the railway for a second time near the higher Clogwyn Station. The path swung across the railway and they continued until they reached BWLCH GLAS marked by a 2m upright stone. There were wonderful views here in all directions. After then it was then a steady rise on the path beside the Railway to the summit.

In all around £5000 was raised by our intrepid walkers. Well done to all those who walking and sponsoring them.
